Abraham Darby Rose
Abraham Darby is one of David Austin’s most iconic early creations—an unforgettable rose that helped define the English shrub rose style. Introduced in 1985, this variety has captured the admiration of gardeners for decades with its lush, overflowing petals and rich, warm color blend of apricot, peach, and soft pink.
The blooms are exceptionally full and deeply cupped, opening into large, luxurious rosettes that appear almost sculpted. Few modern roses can match the depth and generosity of its flowers. Its fragrance is powerful and complex—an extraordinary mix of fruit, citrus, and classic old-rose notes that fills the garden with perfume after every flush.
Abraham Darby grows with natural vigor, forming a broad, arching shrub or a medium climber if trained. It repeats beautifully throughout the season, producing clusters of large blooms that make the plant stand out from a distance. Because this variety has long been retired from commercial production and is no longer available from David Austin in the U.S., it has become increasingly rare to find as a potted, own-root plant.

I bought this rose four years ago and it’s my best producer. The cuttings last for at least one to two weeks. I’ve had no issues with diseases and the maintenance is minimal. I would 100% recommend this rose to anyone.
